The Hoogeveen Chess Tournament will be held this year from Saturday, October 26th to Saturday, November 2nd. The tournament consists of three events: a morning tournament for enthusiasts, an afternoon tournament for amateurs, and the Hoogeveen Open.

The Crown Group returns this year with four women, including two former world champions. Eline Roebers, Machteld van Foreest, Mariya Muzychuk and Alexandra Kosteniuk will compete for the honour from 28 October to 2 November in the town hall of Hoogeveen.

Hoogeveen Open

The Hoogeveen Open starts this year on Saturday, October 26th. There is room for 64 players. They will play nine rounds. On Wednesday, October 30th, there will be a double round. To participate in the tournament, participants must have a FIDE rating of at least 2000. In the absence of a FIDE rating, the national rating counts. The date of registration is leading in determining the rating.

Amateur Tournament - Afternoon

In the afternoon, an amateur tournament will also be held starting Saturday, October 26th. There is room for 76 players. They will play nine rounds. On Wednesday, October 30th, there will be a double round. To participate in the tournament, participants may have a FIDE rating of up to 2100. In the absence of a FIDE rating, the national rating counts. The date of registration is leading in determining the rating.

Amateur Tournament - Morning

In the morning, an amateur tournament will be played starting Saturday, October 26th. This is open to anyone with a FIDE rating of up to 2100. In the absence of a FIDE rating, the national rating counts. The date of registration is leading in determining the rating. This tournament has 7 rounds and a maximum of 126 participants. Wednesday, October 30th is a rest day.

Game Tempo

The game tempo for the Hoogeveen Open and afternoon amateurs is 40 moves in 90 minutes, 30 minutes extra time + 30 seconds increment per move from move 1.

For the morning amateur group, the game tempo is 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move from move 1.

Registration for the first round goes via email, phone, or app. Participants will be notified about this in the week preceding the tournament.

The registration fee for the Open Tournament is €100; participation is free for IGM and IM; FM pays €70; youth players born in or after 2006 also pay €70.

For participation in the morning amateur tournament the registration fee is €70 for everyone. 

For participation in the afternoon amateur tournament the registration fee is €90. Youth players born in or after 2006 pay €70.
