Former top player Jaan Ehlvest from Estonia will give a lecture in Café Batavia, opposite Amsterdam Central Station, on Sunday October 25 from 14.00-17.00h. Ehlvest will talk about the difference between male and female chess players, about his own career, and about the differences in personalities between players. It goes without saying that the stories will be illustrated with a number of game fragments. In the Hoogeveen Chess Tournament Ehlvest now shares 2nd place with 5 points out of 7 rounds, half a point behind the leader, Gupta.

Ehlvest (1962) was the European Junior Champion in 1983, and has various international tournament victories to his name. He has been in the world top 10, with no. 5 as his best ranking. His all-time high Elo rating is 2660. In 1995, Ehlvest was Anatoly Karpov’s second, and later he also assisted Alexander Khalifman during the World Championship in Las Vegas in 1999.

Jaan Ehlvest is also a qualified psychologist, and in 2004 he published his autobiography, The Story of a Chess Player. On the website http://www.chessgymnasium.com more information can be found about his career, his books and his trainings.
